Mahboubeh Roshandel, a 33-year-old woman, was executed on September 4, 2023, in Mashhad prison for the murder of her mother-in-law. She was the mother of a 6-year-old child but was not allowed to see her child during her imprisonment.
According to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at least 12 women have been executed in Iranian prisons in the past 8 months. Notably, the execution of Mahboubeh Roshandel was not reported in government-controlled media.
