A 38-year-old man from the city of Arsenjan in the province of Fars murdered his ex-wife, Fatemeh Zare, in what has been described as a "dispute over dowry," using a cold weapon. On December 12, 2023, Fatemeh Zare, a young woman from Aliabad Malek village in Arsenjan, fell victim to her ex-husband's violence.
The perpetrator, following a verbal altercation over dowry payment, entered the home of his ex-wife's parents in their village and launched a violent attack. As a result of this assault, Fatemeh Zare lost her life, and her 38-year-old sister, 65-year-old father, and 62-year-old mother sustained severe injuries. The perpetrator, arrested within hours of committing the murder, justified his actions as "disputes related to the dowry."

StopFemicideIran's mission is to combat femicide in Iran through a three-prong approach: documentation, education, and empowerment. SFI monitors and documents femicide cases, educates the public and human rights activists, and empowers grassroots organizations to advocate for women's rights. SFI also aims to raise awareness and advocate for policy reforms to prevent and respond to femicides in Iran.
