On June 7, 2025, Hanieh Behboodi PourAmoqhan, a 23-year-old woman, arm-wrestling champion, physical education student, and mother of a 4-year-old girl from Fariman (Razavi Khorasan Province), was strangled and fatally beaten by her husband, Jalal Eslahi, who was also her cousin.
According to reports, the motive for the murder was the husband's anger over Hanieh's success and the public congratulations displayed across the city.
After the murder, the perpetrator cut her wrists in an attempt to stage the crime as a suicide.
The victim’s father reported the son-in-law to the police, and he was arrested. Hanieh had previously endured repeated domestic abuse by her husband.
