Femicide in Khoy: Setareh Mousipour, Victim of Forced Child Marriage, Killed by Her Husband's Brother

Setareh Mousipour
Age: 18
Shot to death: April 21, 2025
Residence: Gorgord, Khoy, West Azerbaijan
Perpetrator: Husband's brother
Excuse: ‘Honor’

On April 21, 2025 , Setareh Mousipour, an 18-year-old girl from the village of Gorgord in the Qotur district of Khoy, was brutally murdered by her husband's brother with a firearm.

Setareh, who had been forced into marriage two years earlier, suffered continuous physical and verbal abuse at the hands of her husband’s family because she was unable to conceive. In a desperate attempt to save her life, Setareh fled to her parents’ home three days before the tragedy and pleaded for protection. However, under intense family pressure and in the name of "preserving honor," she was forced to return to her abusive environment — a decision that ultimately cost her life.

Adding to the injustice, the murderer was released from prison just one day after his arrest, with the consent of the victim’s grandfather. Setareh’s story is not an isolated tragedy. She is one of countless victims of femicide, child marriage, and systemic violence against women.
