On May 6, 2025, a 21-year-old woman named Maedeh Khatibian was brutally murdered by her 28-year-old husband with multiple knife stabs on Zeinabiyeh Street in Mashhad. Rokna, without mentioning the woman's identity, reported that the murder was carried out with extreme violence, and the number of knife stabs was uncountable in the initial stages. The killer, a 28-year-old man, attempted self-harm after killing his wife and was transferred to a hospital in Mashhad, where his condition is reported to be critical.
