Zahra Shekari
Age: 17
Murdered: July 13, 2025
Residence: Kerman
Perpetrator: Brother-in-law
Excuse: ‘honor’
On Sunday, July 13, 2025, Zahra Shekari, a 17-year-old girl from the village of Khabar in Shahr-e Babak, was killed by her brother-in-law with the cooperation of her family members. The victim’s family staged the scene to claim her death was a “suicide.”
According to a source close to the family, Zahra’s body showed bruises on her back, a head wound, and blood coming from her ears. The location where her body was found hanging made suicide physically impossible. Nevertheless, the family blocked the transfer of the body to the forensic department and, using their influence, prevented a professional investigation.
The source added that Zahra had been in a romantic relationship before the incident and had told her partner she was threatened by her sister and brother-in-law.

We are pleased to announce the release of our 2024 report, titled "Stop Violence Against Women and Girls." This report sheds light on the harrowing reality of femicide in Iran, where approximately one woman is killed every other day simply for being a woman.
StopFemicideIran's mission is to combat femicide in Iran through a three-prong approach: documentation, education, and empowerment. SFI monitors and documents femicide cases, educates the public and human rights activists, and empowers grassroots organizations to advocate for women's rights. SFI also aims to raise awareness and advocate for policy reforms to prevent and respond to femicides in Iran.
