On September 2, 2025 ,a 41-year-old man in Maragheh murdered his 38-year-old wife, Somayeh Kiomarthi, and their two daughters, Sanaz (17) and Maral Dolatkhah (9), at their home in the Favarali neighborhood. While state media described the motive as “family problems,” independent findings indicate it was an “honor-related” killing. After the murders, the perpetrator turned himself in to the Maragheh police.

SFI also aims to raise awareness and advocate for policy reforms to prevent and respond to femicides in Iran.
