Zahra Ghaemi, a member of the Department of Women and Family Studies at the University of Tehran, was strangled to death by her husband at their home on Saturday, October 11, 2025 (Mehr 19, 1404).
The motive for the murder was reported to be Zahra Ghaemi’s request for a divorce.
She was the mother of a 12-year-old daughter from her first marriage. State-affiliated media in Iran described the incident as an “accident,” attempting to downplay the structural violence against women.
