On May 3, 2023, a young woman in eastern Tehran was burned alive in an attack by her brother. According to local journalists, the brother stabbed her in an SUV and then doused her with gasoline before setting her on fire. The woman suffered severe burns and the brother also suffered burns in the act. An unknown person used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
Both the brother and sister were taken to the hospital; the woman succumbed to her injuries and died. Police launched an investigation and the prosecutor's office ordered the arrest of the perpetrator and asked to find out the motive.
The names of those involved are not known. We welcome any information!

SFI also aims to raise awareness and advocate for policy reforms to prevent and respond to femicides in Iran.
