Unnamed Woman
Age: -
Strangled: September 28, 2023
Residence: Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan
Origin: Iran
Children: 1
Perpetrator: husband
Excuse: ‘honor’
A young woman was killed by her husband in Mashhad in a so-called honor killing. The suspect, along with the body of his wife placed in a suitcase, traveled from Mashhad to Tehran. He then went to central police station in Tehran to confess to his crime and was arrested.
After his arrest, he stated: "My wife and I have a five-year-old child. We had a year and a half-long disagreement, and my wife betrayed me. On the night of incident I strangled my wife with my own hands after an argument and a fight and then I dismembered the body in the bathroom of our home into eleven pieces and placed it in a black plastic bag.
It is important to note that many men cite 'honor' as the motive for their actions partially due to Article 301 of the Iranian penal law, which often results in lenient sentences for those who murder their wives or daughters under the pretext of 'honor'.
