On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, a 17-year-old girl, a victim of child marriage who set herself on fire eight days earlier in Iranshahr, succumbed to her injuries at a medical center in Sistan and Baluchestan province. This child marriage victim, identified as "S.G." had been forced into marriage under family pressure two weeks prior. Due to ongoing family pressures, she attempted self-immolation. She had previously warned her family that she would take such action if the forced marriage continued, but her warning was not taken seriously. A year earlier, she had been coerced by her family into an engagement with her cousin.
