On August 9, 2024, Somayeh Abdoli, a 43-year-old victim of forced marriage and child marriage at the age of 13 and the mother of 3 children, was killed by her 27-year-old son in one of the districts of Fasa County, Fars province with a gun. The alleged murderer, identified as Ebrahim Abdoli, committed suicide after killing his mother, ending his own life as well. His motive for the murder has been described as "family disputes." Somayeh Abdoli was forced into marriage at the age of 13 and became a mother at the age of 16.

SFI also aims to raise awareness and advocate for policy reforms to prevent and respond to femicides in Iran.
