Elahe Mirzai
Age: 30
Stabbed to death: May 4, 2024
Residence: Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan
Origin: Iran
Children: -
Perpetrator: Husband
Excuse: Dispute about divorce
On the evening of May 4, 2024, Elahe and her sister and brother were at home. She had agreed with her husband to separate amicably and they were supposed to go to court the next day to file for divorce. However, her husband called her and said he wanted to talk to her before officially filing for separation: "He said he had bought sweets for reconciliation and asked her to meet him at the corner of the street." Elahe refused because a few years ago, Reza had attacked her with a knife and caused a deep wound on her thigh. She told him she would only agree to see him if he came to her father's house. Reza agreed and rang the doorbell. As soon as Elahe opened the door, Reza violently rushed towards her and murdered her with multiple knife stabs.

We are pleased to announce the release of our 2024 report, titled "Stop Violence Against Women and Girls." This report sheds light on the harrowing reality of femicide in Iran, where approximately one woman is killed every other day simply for being a woman.
StopFemicideIran's mission is to combat femicide in Iran through a three-prong approach: documentation, education, and empowerment. SFI monitors and documents femicide cases, educates the public and human rights activists, and empowers grassroots organizations to advocate for women's rights. SFI also aims to raise awareness and advocate for policy reforms to prevent and respond to femicides in Iran.
