On November 30, 2023, a 17-year-old Afghan girl named Zeynab was killed by her 22-year-old fiancé on one of the streets in Mashhad while returning home. The suspect allegedly fatally stabbed the 17-year-old girl with a knife, inflicting 20 wounds in public view.
According to the victim's brother,the two were engaged, but the disagreement arose because, according to their customs, the groom was supposed to give gifts to the bride, and the bride's family had given the groom 2 to 3 opportunities to fulfill this tradition, which he failed to do.
