On the morning of Saturday, September 7, 2024, Nazanin Balouchi, a 17-year-old from the village of Gohach near Chanf, was killed by her cousin. Nazanin had been a victim of child marriage, forced into marriage at the age of 14. Three weeks after separating from her abusive husband—who had reportedly beaten her multiple times—she was shot twice in the head with a handgun. The motive for the murder was reported as "preserving family honor."
