On Monday, August 19, 2024 , a 13-year-old girl named Sheida was abducted and subsequently killed by a 40-year-old man in Tehran. According to government media based on the killer's confessions, the motive behind this crime was the perpetrator's intent to sexually assault the child. The report states that the family of the teenage girl reported her disappearance to the police. Sheida’s father said, “My daughter left the house to go to class and did not return.”
According to Hamshahri, during the investigation, it was discovered that the man had deposited money into Sheida's account. After his arrest, he confessed that he intended to assault Sheida, but after she resisted, he killed her with blows from a wooden stick and dumped her body in the deserts of Rudhen. Following the suspect's confession, he was transferred to the detention center of the 10th Police Department of Tehran, and officers began searching for Sheida's body in Rudhen.

StopFemicideIran's mission is to combat femicide in Iran through a three-prong approach: documentation, education, and empowerment. SFI monitors and documents femicide cases, educates the public and human rights activists, and empowers grassroots organizations to advocate for women's rights. SFI also aims to raise awareness and advocate for policy reforms to prevent and respond to femicides in Iran.
